The Subway Diet

The Subway Diet was invented accidentally by Jared Fogle, a student at Indiana University, who dropped from 425 pounds to 180 pounds in just one year in the 1990s. It began to be popular in 2000 after the Subway food chain discovered Jared and based an advertising campaign around his diet.
How Jared Fogle Lost 245 Pounds In One Year
Jared was in his junior year when his weight reached its all time high. Like many young men in college he ate a lot of junk food, but unlike his friends he took virtually no exercise. He was told by a doctor that he risked serious health problems if he did not lose weight. He tried various diets without much success.
Then one day he discovered a Subway restaurant near his dorm. He tried a low fat Sub and liked it, so he began eating there twice a day. He would skip breakfast, walk to Subway for lunch, eat one low fat Sub with maybe some baked potato chips and diet soda, and do the same thing in the evening for dinner.
The Subway Diet consists of doing basically what Jared did. You take 2 meals a day at Subway and eat nothing else. You can choose one Sub from the Eight For Six range which contain 6 grams of fat or less, plus low fat baked potato chips or other low fat side dish. You also have to drink water and do some exercise.
Why Does It Work?It is a calorie diet. Jared Fogle went from eating up to an estimated 10,000 calories in a day right down to around 1000 calories a day. This is half of the amount that a normal sized person of average height needs to maintain a healthy weight, so it is a major calorie restriction.
Another reason why Jared lost his weight so fast (it works out to almost 5 pounds per week) is all the walking that he did. After he reached around 300 pounds he began walking pretty much everywhere instead of taking the bus.
Any Negatives?
Most doctors recommend losing a maximum of 2 pounds per week, so it could be argued that Jared Fogle lost weight too fast for optimum health. However he did succeed in keeping his weight down and is still at a healthy weight 10 years later. He now works for Subway promoting healthy eating.
Without going into the detailed nutritional analysis of the eight Subs that you can choose from, it is unlikely that you would get your full vitamin and mineral needs met on this diet. However, it is not as easy as people think to get the RDAs of all vitamins and minerals. Eating only 1000 calories a day it would be difficult on almost any diet. You are also likely to be very hungry between meals.
Two of the major nutritional elements lacking in the Subway diet are vitamin A and fiber. Add a large portion of orange or red vegetables such as carrots or red bell peppers to boost your intake of these elements. If you eat them raw you will benefit from their vitamin C too. Adding these as snacks will help with the hunger problem.
Of course you should consult your doctor before going on any diet, but remember that many college students, even those who are not overweight, live mainly on junk food. The Subway diet may not be the healthiest diet you could have, but it is a lot healthier than what Jared was consuming before.

Losing Weight Too Fast

Everyone wants to be at the top of their game when it comes to losing weight  and often they feel that the faster they can lose the extra pounds, the better off they will be. However, losing weight too fast can be very dangerous, so it is important to understand how your body works so that you can know how fast is too fast, and whether or not you will continue to be healthy.

Many people think that the faster they can get rid of the weight they dont want, the healthier they will be. It is a fact that losing weight will make you healthier. It will be less stressful on your body, like your knees and your other joints. It will also mean that your heart and lungs dont have to work so hard, and will be able to rest and grow stronger. Also, losing weight allows you to be able to avoid medical complications that might come from having too much of it. While it is true that losing weight will make you healthier, because you wont be carrying around too much excess weight any longer, it is important to lose the weight safely. If you can do so safely, and not too quickly, youll be much healthier.

It is important to understand while losing weight too quickly can be damaging to your health. First of all, your body gains weight slowly. As your body gains weight, it has time to get used to the extra weight, pound by pound. You dont gain 20 pounds in a week, so your body doesnt have to get used to a lot of weight gain at once. Therefore, gaining weight is a very gradual process, and although it is not a good process, it is one that your body can easily handle. You need to make sure that when you are losing weight, you are doing so in the same way. Your body is used to you being a certain size, so you need to allow it to get used to less weight in a more gradual way. Losing weight too quickly is dangerous because your body wont know what is going on, and body systems can go into shock.

Another reason that it is dangerous to lose weight too fast is that your body wont know what you are doing. If you start to lose weight very quickly, your body will assume that it is starving to death. It will immediately go into emergency mode and try to store as much fat as possible so that you can survive. This can lead to dangerous up and down yo-yo-ing of your weight, which wont help you to lose any more, and which will be very stressful on the rest of your body. o

When you are losing weight, you.Nneed to be sure that you are doing it gradually. Give your body time to adjust. This will also help to tighten loose skin and strengthen muscles that have been hid under a layer of fat.

Tablets to Help In Weight Loss

Recent studies have shown that more people are getting overweight every year. This happens not only to adults but even to kids who have just started in school.
There are many factors that have contributed to this such as the rise in the number of fast foods joints that contain a lot of saturated fat in the meals, the use of refined sugar in sodas and other processed foods, eating food with less fiber, genetics, overeating and as people age slow metabolism.
PSince losing weight takes time and most people cant wait to get rid of it, these people have decided to take the fastest way out which is through the use of weight loss tablets.
In the 1950s until the late 90s, doctors prescribed drugs for weight loss. The drug works by increasing the serotonin levels in the brain that makes the brain believe that the stomach is already full and thus, increases the persons metabolic rate.
It was only after scientists discovered that these drugs had side effects and were related to cause heart valve disease that these were taken off the shelves.
Later on, modifications have been made and new drugs were developed and prescribed by doctors and many of which are still waiting for FDA approval.
The idea that a simple drug can change everything without the need to change ones diet or sacrificing anything is very tempting since people have seen friends and family members use it and have shown tremendous improvement.
This has made a lot of people spend millions of dollars every year to also experience this miracle and has given drug companies a lot of money making the drug and selling it.
Diet pills can be purchased either over-the-counter or prescribed by a doctor. Even with the advances in medical technology, these drugs still pose a health risk to the public. Problems in patients can be unpleasant such as diarrhea and vomiting, harmful such as tightness in the chest and in the urinary tract and fatal such as a heart attack or a stroke.
An overdose in using weight loss tablets can cause tremors, confusion, hallucinations, shallow breathing, renal failure, heart attack and convulsions.
The side effects vary depending on the lifestyle and health of the person and can be minimized as long as one consults the doctor and follows the prescribed dosage when using it.
Should one decide to stop using the drugs, studies have shown that a person will experience withdrawal symptoms and side effects. These include noticeable mood swings, hyper-activity, and pain in the stomach, insomnia and nightmares, severe irritability, extreme fatigue, depression, nausea, vomiting and trembling.
A lot of clinical tests will show that the taking this weight loss tablets really work. But this can only work if it is done with a low calorie diet and an exercise plan.
A person can jog every morning or sign up and workout in a gym. Just like taking any medicine, one should first consult the doctor before undergoing any form of exercise.
The best exercise plan should have cardiovascular and weight training exercises. This helps burn calories and increase the muscle to fat ratio that will increase ones metabolism and lose weight.
It is up to the person already to stick to the program to see that it works.

PFree Weight Loss programs /P
PThe race to fitness is on and a lot of people are getting into the band wagon. Some people do it to achieve a sexy body, some people just do it because they are embarrassed with the body they have now, while others do it simply to remain fit and heatlthy. As such, many fitness programs are out in the internet, in gyms, spas and fitness centers all over. Some are too expensive to afford that one may even lose weight just by trying to work out the money needed to pursue these fitness programs. /P
POne may not have to go to the gym or the spa or any fitness center and spend much just to slim down to obtain that longed for sexy body. There are many books available in the bookstore which offer weight loss programs which are convenient and for free, of course the books are not though. These weight loss programs, or diet plans are gaining immense popularity with so much publicity, testimonials and reviews that one may be confused which exactly to follow. So before choosing which weight loss plan to follow, try reading these summaries about the most popular diet programs out today. /P
PAtkins New Diet Revolution by Dr. Atkins. This weight loss program encourages high protein diet and a trim down on the carbs. One can feast on vegetables and meat but should fast on bread and pasta. One is also not restricted against fat intake so it is okay to pour in the salad dressing and freely spread on the butter. However, after the diet, one may find himself lacking on fiber and calcium yet high in fat. Intake of grains and fruits are also limited. /P
PCarbohydrate Addicts Diet by Drs. Heller. This diet plan advocates low carbohyrate eating. Approves on eating meats, vegetables and fruits, dairy and grain products. however, warns against taking in too much carb. Reward meal can be too high on fats and saturated fats. /P
PChoose to Lose by Dr. Goor. Restrains fat intake. One is given a fat budget and he is given the liberty on how to spend it. It does not pressure the individual to watch his carbohydrate intake. Eating meat and poultry as well as low-fat dairy and seafoods is okay. A go signal is also given on eating vegetables, fruits, cereals, bread and pasta. This weight loss plan is fairly healthy, good amounts of fruits and vegetables as well as saturated fats. Watch triglyceride levels though; if high, trim down the carbohydrates and tuck in more of the unsaturated fats. /P
PThe DASH Diet. Advocates moderate amounts of fat and protein intake and high on carbs. Primarily designed to lower blood pressure, the diet plan follows the pyramid food guide and encourages high intake of whole wheat grains as well as fruits and vegetables and low-fat dairy. Some dieters think it advocates too much eating to procure significant weight loss. /P
PEat More, Weigh Less by Dr. Ornish. Primarily vegetarian fare and strictly low-fat. Gives the go signal on the glow foods but warns to watch it on non-fat dairy and egg whites. This diet is poor in calcium and retricts consumption of healthy foods like seafoods and lean poultry. /P
PEat Right for Your Type. Interesting because it is based on the persons blood type. recommends plenty of mest for people with the blood type O. Diet plans for some blood types are nutritionally imbalanced and too low in calories. And for the record, there is even no proof that blood type affects dietary needs. /P
PThe Pritkin Principle. Focused on trimming the calorie density in eating by suggesting watery foods that make one feel full. Eating vegetables, fruits, oatmeal, pasta, soups, salads and low-fat dairy is okay. Although limits protein sources to lean meat, pseafood and poultry. Although it is healthy by providing low amounts of saturated fats and rich amounts of vegetables and fruits, it is also low on calcium and limits lean protein sources. /P
PVolumetrics. For low-density calorie eating. Recommends the same foodstuff as Pritkin but restricts fatty or dry foods like popcorn, pretzels and crackers. This plan is reasonably healthy given the high amounts of fruits and vegetables as well as being low in calorie density and saturated fats. /P
PThe Zone. Moderately low on the carbs yet moderately high on the proteins. Encourages low-fat protein foods like fish and chicken plus veggies, fruits and grains. It is also healthy but lacking in grains and calcium. /P
PWeight Watchers. High carbohydrates, moderate on fats and proteins. A very healthy diet plan and very flexible too. it allows the dieter to plan his own meal rather than give him a set to follow. /P

PWhen we see beautiful models in magazines and svelte actresses in movies, we are tempted to cut down on our eating in order to lose weight and look more like them. successful diets should help but how can they help you. We decide to stop eating as much so we can drops some pounds. Less food taken in should mean you#8217;ll lose weight quickly, right?nbsp; Not necessarily.nbsp; Our bodies are very efficient at storing food as fat as a defense against starvation.nbsp; When you cut your calories, and if you do it drastically enough, your body panics.nbsp; Think of it in terms of an army and its rations. /P
PBody: nbsp;nbsp; #8220;Danger! Danger!nbsp; There#8217;s not enough food!nbsp; We#8217;re starving!#8221;/P
PMetabolism:nbsp;nbsp;nbsp; #8220;Cut down on production men, we#8217;re going into survival mode! Slow and steady!BRnbsp;nbsp;Emphasis on the slow!#8221;/P
PBody: nbsp;nbsp; #8220;Just make sure we have enough fat stores to get through this famine#8221;BRMetabolism:nbsp;nbsp;nbsp; #8220;Aye Aye Captain!#8221;/P
POrders have been given and voila#8217;, thunder thighs are born.nbsp; Or Jelly Bellies, saggy arms, double chins, saddle bags and any number of fat stores are created in order to make sure that your body doesn#8217;t starve.nbsp; Think of it as the general of an army, laying in stores for a very long winter. When your body is in survival mode, it takes fewer calories to sustain itself, to maintain its current weight.nbsp; Excess calories are stored as fat and the stores are parceled out to the soldiers reluctantly and very s l o w l y in order to make sure the resources last as long as possible. /P
PSevere restriction of calories is a sure fire way to cause your metabolism to slow down to a crawl. Successful diets work so? If you have been crash dieting for years without exercising then your metabolism has been affected.nbsp; Dieting like this burns muscle and the less muscle mass you have, the less calories you burn and the slower your metabolism. You will now need fewer calories to maintain your current weight.nbsp; This means that if you consume more calories, your body won#8217;t need to use them for energy and will store them.nbsp; Helloooo belly fat. /P
PWhen you put the weight back on, and you will if you have been crash dieting, then it will be put back on as fat.nbsp; This means in case of successful diets that your metabolic rate has probably dropped a little bit each time that you have crash dieted. Putting on more fat and losing muscle will cause your metabolism to slow down even more. It seems like a cycle of doom, doesn not it?nbsp; It can be if you don#8217;t break that cycle.nbsp; I am about to show you just how to increase your metabolism in order to burn the most calories possible, even when you are sleeping. There are diets that can proof you this, but this is another chapter, choose successful diets and you will lose weight, that is for sure. BR/P

The Jenny Craig Diet

PThe Jenny Craig diet is not so much a diet but a weight loss program that is based around special packaged food. The program operates out of weight loss centers around the world. These are run on a franchise basis – that is, the owner of the franchise is thoroughly trained in operating the program and is licensed to use the company name and sell Jenny Craig products. /P
PWhat Can You Expect?/P
PIf you sign up with the Jenny Craig program you can expect to visit one of their centers to meet with a weight loss counselor. This will establish what your calorie level should be depending on your current build and the amount of weight that you want to lose. You will sign up to the program for a certain length of time or until you have reached your target weight./P
PYou will then be advised on your nutritional program which will include the special food that you buy from them. You will return once a week to be weighed, buy more food and discuss your progress and any problems you are having./P
PIf you do not live near a center or if you prefer not to have one on one sessions in person, you can take the counseling by phone and have the supplies delivered./P
PWhy Does It Work?/P
PThis is a calorie controlled diet, which together with exercise should ensure weight loss if you follow it./P
PThe weekly weighing session means that you have someone out there who knows how you are doing. You can also have phone calls with the counselors. Being accountable to someone in this way often helps people to lose weight or keep to any other resolution that they make./P
PAny Negatives?/P
PLike all diets involving special food that you would not normally eat, it can be difficult to limit yourself to their meal choices and it is likely to be hard to keep the weight off afterward. On the other hand if you like not having to cook or think about what to eat, the prepared meals will suit you just fine./P
PThe food is prepared with a fairly high sodium content and is not necessarily low on the glycemic index so it will not suit everybody. If you are insulin resistant or have high blood pressure or other special nutritional needs you may not be able to take the program. They do advise you to see your doctor before starting (as with all diet programs) and they give you an information sheet to take along./P
PBoth the membership and the food that you need to buy can be expensive. Shipping is extra if you have the supplies delivered. You may be better off with a program that is based around regular food, such as Weight Watchers. Do find out what your costs are likely to be for food as well as counseling before signing up for the Jenny Craig diet.BR/P

Fighting Obesity to Live through Healthy Aging

PBeing over weight will hurt you if you let it and do not do something about it. It is not good to be over weight, obesity can cause your body harm. /P
PWhat are something that can happen to me if am overweight?BRIf you are over weight there is many things that can happen to you. Obesity is responsible for heart attacks. Obesity is behind sleep apnea, strokes, diabetes and so on. When a person is overweight, they often hurt all the time. Sometimes it makes it difficult to breath. Obesity causes the heart to work harder. You may have a hard time walking across the floor. Obesity can make you feel depressed and not want to go anywhere or do anything. Being over weight is bad on your health./P
PWhat can I do to help myself?BRYou have several options, yet the first is to gain willpower to take control of your body. The next step is to start eating the right foods, getting some exercise and so on. If you can exercise like you want to that is great, take it slow and do a little at a time. Do not overdo it. If you over work your body, the body will let you know. Obesity prevents many from staying active. A persons emotions and mental state is affected by obesity, since you start thinking I don#8217;t want to do anything. You have to do something. Get out of the house and take in a movie. Perhaps you could visit some friends that you haven#8217;t seen in awhile. The more active you are, you will start feeling better about you and maybe you will lose some weight. You need to go see your family doctor to see if its ok to do this before you start. Your family doctor may give you a diet to go by and maybe recommend the exercises that will benefit you./P
PWhat should I eat?BRI cannot tell you what to eat. I can however give you a few pointers. Instead of frying your food, bake it. Baking meats, veggies, etc will help cutback grease. Baking will help drain the fat out of the food rather than if you fried the food. Fried foods mean fat, fat, fat and can harm your heart. Eat three times a day breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Eat plenty of raw vegetables, and salads. If you enjoy chocolates or sweets, find substitutes. Yogurts may offer you a new taste as well as reduce your risks, especially if you choose the fat-free groups. Try to stay away from fast foods. Fast food has obesity written all over its menu. Heart attacks follow. If you enjoy dining out, then find family owned restaurants, since the family will serve you healthier dishes. When you sit down to eat at home, avoid eating in front of the television. You should avoid seconds as well. /P
PBeing over weight is hard on you both mentally and physical. If you have, will power then try to lose weight? Start out by taking it slow. Don#8217;t go hog wild since it will only make your heart race. You need to learn your limits to help you lose weight and take control of your health. If you find it still too hard to lose weight then maybe you should see if there is a local support group around so that you can join it and get the support that you need. You might want to stay away from people that do not give you support. You will need lifted up not let down. /P

P class=MsoNormal style=MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0ptSPAN lang=EN-US style=FONT-FAMILY: VerdanaWater fasting also goes by the name of detoxification and hence loosing weight by water fasting is a very effective method to detoxify your body. The process of water fasting involves drinking a lot of water while not eating any regular food for several consecutive days. While this is a #8220;hard core#8221; version of water fasting; it is not recommended for a newbie. In case you#8217;re water fasting for the first time then you can also drink fruit juices along with water. Since you are only drinking fluids during detoxification, the focus of your body will shift away from digesting food and hence the elimination of accumulated waste inside your body will begin in a smooth way. So in a sense, detoxification is an excellent method to overhaul and fine tune your system. o:p/o:p/SPAN/P

The major source of energy in our body is glucose which is what we get from every single food item that we eat. Glucose is a form of sugar and it is converted into glycogen after the digestion of food. This glycogen is then stored in our body as fat. During water fasting, this fat starts burning since the body is not getting any additional fat from outside. Hence, within the first few days of water fasting, our body will start burning the internal fat reserves which are responsible for additional weight. Although this method of weight loss by water fasting has been in practice since time immemorial, recent studies have revealed that there are certain limitations to this method.o:p/o:p/SPAN/P

But if done for more than four days, the metabolic rate of your body begins to slow down. This is because your body will then start behaving in its natural tendency to store fat. In other words, your body will slip into #8220;survival mode#8221; and hence will burn less or no fat. Moreover, once you return back to your normal diet, your body will start gaining all the lost fat as a natural reaction to #8220;replenish#8221; all the fat starved cells in this #8220;survival mode#8221;. Hence, it is conceivable that you may actually gain weight once done with water fasting.o:p/o:p/SPAN/P

Fast as long as you can without punishing your body. Remember, excess of anything is bad and Water Fasting Weight Loss is no exception to this. Our bodies are approximately 85 percent water and hence it#8217;s a very vital element for our survival. Losing Midsection Fat – How to Do it and Keep it Off

February 23, 2010 by admin
Filed under Weight Loss and Dieting

The goal to losing midsection fat is permanence. To learn how to do it and keep it off is to know ones own limitations and how to push the envelope towards that direction. To start with, losing midsections weight is one of the most difficult if not the most difficult areas of the body in which to drop weight. There are many factors that back up the supporting statement and the first is fat depository reactions of the body.
The human body understands that it must reserve fat deposits for times of need. Fat is used by the body for energy expenditure and nutrient storage. Your body does not want to be totally skinny and fat free as this is not a healthy state of homeostasis.
One of the best goals for losing midsections fat and weight should be 3 inches a month. The reason for this minimal gain is that only through a gradual decrease of midsections fat will permanence be achieved. There are many misconceptions about abdominal fat. The first and most prominent is that the fat can be lost by working only the muscles. This is highly ridiculous and with a little bit of description you will see why. Fat in the abdominal region sits on top of stomach muscles.
In no way shape or form will exercise in the abdominal muscles do anything to the lost dear fat deposits perched on top of that muscle region. Another misconception about body fat is that you have the power to decide where that fat goes and how to remove it. The truth is that you do not have any control of all work that goes in; only that fat and the body will travel the least path of resistance. Since food is exorbitant abdominal region of the stomach in particular, this is where the fat cells will Carteret and most easily be multiplied.
In order to lose midsections fat and learn how to do it and keep it off, you must be prepared for a rigid and sometimes difficult exercise routine. This all has to do with basic biomechanics and it will be explained right now. Biodynamics is the way your body moves and the ability to burn caloric intake through physical exercise.
One of the best ways to lose the fat in the body increasingly and permanently while trying to store it in the form of fat cells around the abdomen is to take a whole body approach. For women this means that its time to hit the gym and cut back on everything that is fattening. For men it is the same thing except more exercise especially in strength training and not just abdominal crunches and setups.
A great exercise routine is a brisk walk or jogging. Jogging is considered a great aerobic workout since it forces air into the lungs and expels carbon dioxide which feeds the cells and does this in an exponentially greater rate than any other exercise known to man. Even a brisk 20 minute walk every other afternoon will burn up calories to start diminishing the abdominal fat deposits in your body.
Mentally, you should prepare yourself to envision a thinner waistline and you will have the first 20 or so percent of this exercise routine goal well in hand. The goal of losing midsections that is not an easy one but you can do this as long as you practice whole body biodynamic.
