Lose Weight Easily
Many people find that they can lose weight much more easily just by changing the way they eat. For example, it can make a big difference just slowing down the speed that we eat.
Sounds weird maybe but the longer you spend chewing and savoring your food, the more you will enjoy it. This means it will take less for you to feel satisfied.
Eating slow has some other benefits too. First, it takes our bodies around 10 minutes to recognize when we have had enough to eat. So if we eat real fast, we can pack in a lot more food than we needed to feel full. If we eat slower, we are more likely to pick up on this signal before we ate too much.
Second, it helps the digestive system if the food is well chewed before it hits the stomach. The action of chewing and mixing with saliva in the mouth starts the digestive process so everything can go more smoothly from there. We are not so likely to suffer from indigestion or acid reflux if we eat slower.
It is easier to eat slower if you are not distracted while you eat. Do not watch TV or read a magazine. When you eat, just eat.
Also, wait until you finished chewing and swallowing one mouthful of food before you start to load up the fork or spoon with the next. Most people start thinking about the next mouthful before they even started chewing the last. Instead, put down your fork on the table until your mouth is empty.
It takes a little time to get into these new habits but you will not regret it. You will find that if you eat slower you will enjoy your meals much more. It is much easier to stick to a diet that way because you do not feel deprived. Plus you will probably wind up eating less without even trying.
The Importance Of Muscle For Weight Loss

The Importance Of Muscle For Weight Loss
Muscle weighs more than fat but gives us a much better body shape. This is one of the reasons why it is important to maintain or even increase muscle mass while we are on a weight loss program.
We have hundreds of different muscles in the body and it is important to use them all. If you have just been doing one type of exercise until now, then it is time to diversify.
Start gently because some of those muscle groups may not have been worked for a long time. But start!
Weight bearing exercise such as walking or running works many of the major muscles in the leg and core, and also strengthens the bones.
Resistance training can involve many muscle groups, not only the arms.
The core muscles of the back and abdomen can be targeted with specific workout routines, or stretched through yoga or Pilates programs.
Even if you just want to tone up one particular part of the body such as the abs or the thighs, it is important to involve all of the bodys muscles.
Muscle has a higher metabolic rate than fat. A more muscular body can consume more calories without gaining, because the muscle requires more energy just for maintenance.
So muscle could be described as the furnace that naturally burns away our fat.

How To Lose Weight Naturally
The human body is amazing. It has survived and prospered in almost every part of this world, however hot or cold. Its digestive system can handle an incredible variety of foods.
It is also very clever at adjusting its metabolism to cope with times when food is scarce or abundant. In times of famine (or crash dieting), the metabolism slows down to enable us to survive on fewer calories. We feel tired and find it hard to concentrate, so we sleep more and conserve energy that way.
When there is plenty of food (which in most parts of the world happens in the fall and early winter), we naturally eat more and store the extra as fat. If we are living on natural, unprocessed foods, then in the late spring our appetite will diminish and we use up those stores, even if there is still plenty of food in our environment.
It is only when we start eating highly processed and refined foods that we start to have a problem. Then we eat and eat, constantly increasing our stores of fat and never calling on them for energy.
If you take a good look at food advertising in the USA today, you might begin to think there was a conspiracy to keep us fat, sick and sedated.
Take a pen and note down how many ads you see in one week for fresh fruits, vegetables or raw meat. And how many do you see for chocolate, pizza or burgers?
I guess the second category will probably win …
Of course, its not really because the stores or food producers want to harm us. Its just because their profit margins are higher on processed foods, and they want to make more money.
But we dont have to fall for the advertising. We can stay healthy, if we keep focused on that.
Is Your Diet Healthy

Is Your Diet Healthy?
Nutritional deficiencies are very common in people who are overweight.
This is true even if the person is eating as much as they want, without trying to diet at all. It happens because we are often choosing to eat food that is high in calories without being high in vitamins and essential minerals.
Often, by supplementing with a good natural source of vitamins and minerals, we can correct these deficiencies.
It is especially important to take the right supplements if you are on any kind of restrictive diet for weight loss.
If you are skipping meals, using meal replacements or following a diet that does not make you eat a ton of vegetables, you likely have some deficiencies in your diet.
This adds to any deficiencies that have built up over the years of eating food that was high in calories but poor in nutrition.
The result is that if we do not take supplements, the body will be constantly crying out for food, because it wants to get its nutritional needs met. This causes cravings that can seem irresistible so we break the diet.
If you are having a lot of cravings for particular foods, or if you have had trouble following diets for any length of time in the past, a good nutritional supplement could make the world of difference and help you to succeed this time around.
Positive Support For Weight Loss

Positive Support For Weight Loss
If you want your weight loss program to be successful, you must focus on the positive.
This means thinking about what you CAN eat and drink, not what you cant.
Thinking about what you can do is important too. As you lose weight, there will be more and more things that you can do, that you could not do before.
One of the best things that you can do right now is to find support. This has the double benefit of making your weight loss program more likely to be successful as well as making it more enjoyable.
When we talk about support, we dont mean boring your slim friends with all of the details of your diet. We mean getting together with people who are also losing weight on the same kind of plan, or people who want to buddy up with you on an exercise program.
Sometimes these people may be in the family. Often it happens that where one family member is overweight, others will be too. If you have a partner, parent, child or sibling who wants to lose weight, why not involve them in your plan?
But dont be tempted to make it a competition. Remember that different people lose weight in different ways and at different rates. If you can both lose some weight, you are both winners.
It is always easier to be successful with a diet if other people around you are eating healthy too. If you are in the habit of indulging in overeating with friends who dont want to lose their excess weight, you may need to stay away from those people for a while. Instead, choose to spend time with slim friends who eat healthy, or those who are also trying to lose.
If you dont have another family member or close friend to share your program, consider joining a group. This may be an exercise class, an online forum or something like Overeaters Anonymous where you will meet other people who are losing weight.
Be a little cautious when joining these groups because some of them can be rather negative. Some people are so eager to have everybody follow their plan, that they will criticize any other plan. Its better to stay away from people like that.
So make sure there is a positive atmosphere to any group or forum that you choose to join.
How To Lose Belly Fat

How To Lose Belly Fat
A lot of people set out trying to lose weight from one particular part of the body. Often, its the belly.
Having a firmer, flatter abdomen makes us look younger as well as fitter. This is because older people, both men and women, tend to put on weight in this area first. Younger people naturally have less belly fat.
Unfortunately, there is no diet that will target one special part of the body so that we lose all of the weight from that region. Fat is lost from all over the body in roughly the same proportions that we gained it.
However, we can do a lot to firm up our abdomen using exercise.
Targeted fitness training will tone the abdominal muscles (abs) so that they support the body much better.
This means that they will be tighter, containing and hiding some of the visceral fat. Then as we gradually lose fat all over the body because of our improved way of eating, the abs will begin to show and we start to have the appearance of a flat belly.
Developing the core muscles, including the abs and the muscles of the back, will also improve posture. Better posture means that we stand and sit in a way that makes us look fitter and slimmer. So just this aspect of working the abs can make a huge difference to how good we look.
Training will also help to speed up the metabolism so that we use more energy, burning fat throughout the day.
But of course, diet is important too. Nobody will see the firmest six pack if it is hidden under a layer of fat!
Why Thin People Are Thin

Why Thin People Are Thin
When we look around at the size of different people, it just doesnt seem fair. How come thin people can eat all of the french fries and chocolate that they want? Is it metabolism?
I hate to tell you this, but studies have shown that in fact, thin people do eat less. The main reason that they can eat all they want is because they dont want so much!
Its true that there is a difference between men and women when it comes to metabolic rate. Also, our metabolism does slow down as we approach senior status.
However, if you compare two people of the same age, height and sex, where one person is significantly thinner than the other, you will almost certainly find that the thinner person eats less and/or has a more active lifestyle.
They may only eat a little less. A person only has to eat an extra 100 calories per day (1.5 slices of bread) in order to gain 10 pounds in a year. Thats 50 pounds in 5 years or 100 pounds in 10 years.
And an extra 200 calories per day (3 slices of bread) would make us gain 200 pounds in 10 years.
Most of us gained our excess weight at that kind of rate, or slower.
So it would make sense to lose it at around the same rate.
But of course we dont want to go that slow. We want all the weight to disappear right now. This is another reason why most diets fail.
You can expect to lose 5-10 lb in the first week of a diet, as the body gets rid of any excess retained water. But after that, the slower the better if you want to be and stay slim.
I Need Chocolate

I Need Chocolate!
When you are losing weight, its often better to give up completely any foods that you feel you are addicted to, because its so hard to eat just a little. But theres one thing that many people find it impossible to give up, and that is … chocolate!
Many people seem to actually need chocolate in their diets. Most women will be aware of the power of chocolate at certain times of the month! This is because the cacao bean, from which chocolate comes, is rich in B vitamins.
Chocolate also contains many minerals, antioxidants and a substance called theobromine which is a stimulant, a little like caffeine. Plus it contains epicatechin, which studies have suggested can protect against stroke, heart disease, cancer and diabetes.
So its good to hear that there is a way to reintroduce chocolate into our diets without breaking any rules. The way to do this is to use cocoa powder.
Chocolate comes from the cacao bean, which is actually the seed of the cacao tree. The bean contains fat known as cocoa butter. In processing to make chocolate, the fat is separated out and what is left is ground to make cocoa (or cacao) powder. This cocoa powder contains all of the vitamins, minerals and other substances that are found in the original bean.
Of course, to make the chocolate bars that we find in the stores, the cocoa butter is added back to the powder in different quantities along with other fats and plenty of sugar. But we dont need these!
Cocoa powder can be used in many ways. The simplest is to make a drink by adding boiling water to 1 or 2 teaspoons of cocoa powder. Add half a teaspoon of Splenda or similar sweetener, or more if desired. Enjoy!
You can also add cocoa powder to healthy desserts. However, because of the stimulant, you may prefer to avoid it in the evenings. Some people find it keeps them awake, as caffeine would do.
So why not have chocolate for breakfast? If your diet allows bananas, put a splash of water into the blender followed by 1 tablespoon cocoa powder and 2 bananas. Use more water for a smoothie, less for a thick treat to eat with a spoon.
Or for low carb dieters, whip up your daily allowance of heavy cream and add cocoa powder and Splenda to taste. Cocoa powder does have a few carbs, so remember to count them. Or melt some coconut oil, mix in an equal quantity of cocoa powder and a little Splenda, pour into an ice cube tray and refrigerate. Delicious!
Right And Wrong Ways To Lose Weight

Right And Wrong Ways To Lose Weight
Everybody wants to lose weight fast, but most people find that the faster they lose, the more likely they are to gain the weight back, and more.
Fad diets include some that are very restrictive. They might have you eat only cabbage soup for a week, for example.
Cabbage soup can be good healthy food, but even the healthiest food cannot provide everything that the body needs. We need a variety of foods if we want to sustain weight loss.
The other problem with losing weight too fast is that often times, people lose muscle instead of fat. Muscle burns fat, so you want to hold onto as much of that as you can.
Exercise programs can help to build muscle but they also require good nutrition.
If we lose weight very fast, our natural defense mechanisms will come into play. The aim of these is to conserve as much fat as possible to protect against starvation. The body will sacrifice muscle to hold onto its fat if it thinks that a famine has hit.
This means that if we lose weight fast, we can easily get into a situation where we dont actually lose much fat. To make things worse, when we start eating normally again, the metabolism will have slowed down so much that it is much easier to gain weight.
This is how dieting makes us fat.
To avoid this situation, just make sure that you lose weight slower and satisfy all of your bodys nutritional needs while you are dieting.

Having Fun While You Diet
If you are going to lose weight and keep it off, it is important to see your diet as part of your lifestyle and even something that you enjoy.
It should not be a question of putting yourself through several months of hell in order to lose the pounds. If you do that, you will surely gain it all back as soon as you relax that iron control.
Meal plans should involve plenty of variety. Choose foods that you like as well as experimenting with the full range that your diet allows.
And most important, especially if you are not so young, include some physical exercise that you actually enjoy doing.
Sometimes it takes a while to begin enjoying exercise. At first it may be tough to get out there and do it.
But after a while even the most reluctant exerciser usually finds something that they can enjoy doing.
Walking is a good beginning for those who are not used to exercising at all. Talk to your doctor if you are very overweight or suffer from medical conditions, because there may be some things that you should not do. However, walking is fine for most people who are physically mobile.
Swimming and cycling are other types of aerobic exercise that a lot of people enjoy. Cycling can be done on a machine while you listen to music or watch TV.
Swimming can be more difficult just because we may feel very exposed in a swimming costume. If you have your own pool this should not be a problem, but swimming at the beach or in a public pool can take a lot of courage.
Remember that you do not necessarily have to wear just a swimming costume. You can wear a T shirt and shorts. Man made fabrics are often better than cotton because they will not be so heavy when wet.
Another possibility is joining a weight loss swimming program where you can swim with other overweight people. This way you are not likely to be so self conscious. You may find you actually enjoy swimming with others in a group like this.
Start your exercise program gently and do not expect too much of yourself too soon, especially if you are over 40 years old.
